BigBrain: An Ultrahigh-Resolution 3D Human Brain Model BigBrain:超高解析度3D人脑模型

Abstract
Reference brains are indispensable tools in human brain mapping, enabling integration of multimodal data into an anatomically realistic standard space. Available reference brains, however, are restricted to the macroscopic scale and do not provide information on the functionally important microscopic dimension. We created an ultrahigh-resolution three-dimensional (3D) model of a human brain at nearly cellular resolution of 20 micrometers, based on the reconstruction of 7404 histological sections. “BigBrain” is a free, publicly available tool that provides considerable neuroanatomical insight into the human brain, thereby allowing the extraction of microscopic data for modeling and simulation. BigBrain enables testing of hypotheses on optimal path lengths between interconnected cortical regions or on spatial organization of genetic patterning, redefining the traditional neuroanatomy maps such as those of Brodmann and von Economo. 论文摘要 在人类大脑图谱中大脑参考样本是不可或缺的工具,它使得将多模态数据整合进解剖学上的现实标准空间成为可能。然而可得的大脑参考样本受限于宏观规模且不能提供在功能性的重要微观层面上的相关信息。我们在对7404片组织切片重建的基础上构建了一个近20微米蜂窝分辨率的超高分辨率三维(3D)人脑模型。“大脑”是一个免费的,公众可用的工具,它提供大量的有关人脑神经解剖学的见解资料,从而使得对用于建模与仿真目的的微观数据的提取成为可能。“大脑”使得针对相互关联的皮层区域之间最优路径长度方面或遗传模式空间组织方面假设的检验成为可能,且重新定义了比如布罗德曼和冯-埃科诺莫的传统神经解剖图。
